This candid was taken in the middle of Grasmere in the Lake District. My wife was in a shop - as usual - so I was propping up the door post outside. These three men sat on the seat opposite, got out a map and began discussing their next destination. I could see the possibility of a shot so focused and waited for a reasonable set of mannerisms. They were so engrossed in their discussion that they had no idea that I was there, nor did they here the camera shutter - no motor wind at this time - the camera was a Pentax SP1000 with 200 mm. SMC lens. Always buy the best lenses that you can afford as they make the results. The SMC lenses that I had at the time were also used on a Cosina SLR and the results were just as good as the Pentax. Compositionally, the picture lends itself to a thinner than normal horizontal frame, and there are two bright highlights right on the top edge of the frame that tend to draw the eye. I could have toned them down during printing.
